HOUSING 🏠
We know accomidation can seem a bit stressful at first but don't worry, it always works out. It's good to keep in mind that housing in Sweden works on a queueing system, where you will be given one point for each day after you sign up. So we heavily advise you to sign up as soon as possible with Studentbostäder, Heimstaden, Byggvesta, Stångåstaden and Kombo so you can rack up points early and have many options later on.
Lots of students live in apartments owned by studentbostader, stangastaden or heimstaden. Normally with them you will pay rent for 10 months a year and to stay with them you have to be a LiU student (but i guess thats not an issue or at least I hope not). Some students also have a “regular” landlord, some options for this can be via the list of landlords provided below or via facebook marketplace. Keep in mind to be very careful when looking at these options, make sure it is not a scam and be sure to double read the contract.
Many students chose to live in dorm-rooms or “Korridors” as the swedes say. You will have your own bedroom and bathroom, and you’ll share your kitchen and living area with around 7 other people. The rent is usually between 3000-4000 Swedish kr, and altogether the floor area of your room is about 20 square meters. Living in a dorm can be social and fun. You can meet people from other programs in LiU, you can have fika with your korridor mates and there’s almost always someone in the kitchen to talk to. A dorm room is usually fairly easy to get, check Studentbostäder and Heimstaden in Linkoping.
If you prefer having your own kitchen you can add around 1000 kr and get yourself a one bedroom apartment. Or if you don't like the dorm lifestyle but would still like your own kitchen and living area you could share an apartment. This is also a pretty cheap option and sometimes even cheaper than a dorm.
If you’re determined, you can definitely find somewhere to live initially, then if you’d like you can move to something better.
Do not forget to get house insurance once you have moved in!! It may not be very common in other countries but here is Sweden it is a must as well as very economic.
If there is the need for emergency accommodation KOMBO, an LiU association for students, is your solution!! They offer emergency beds where you can stay the night in case of emergency. KOMBO can also help you to find a room or apartment to rent and move in. Also, KOMBO is an association from Linköping University, made by students and for students, so we can assure you they will try their best to help you when you have difficulties finding a place to live.
If the search for accommodation is a bit too tough you can always contact one of the fadrar to help you out, and never worry if you have nowhere to stay there's always a fadrar who can let you use their sofa or a mattress. Note however that it is strictly prohibited to “share a bed” with a fadder during Nolle-P, so please save all your flirting until after the final sittning.

TRANSPORT 🚲
Transport in Linkoping is quite straightforward as there are two main ways of transportation: bus and biking.
Using the bus is quite simple, you’ll need to download the Ostgotatrafiken app and you can buy a
- 1h ticket for 33kr or 23.1kr if you are 19 years old or below
- 24h ticket for 66kr or 46.2kr if you are 19 years old or below
- 1 month ticket for 755kr or 528.50kr if you are 19 years old or below
Biking is one of the most convenient modes of transport in Linkoping, if biking sounds more interesting you can buy a second hand bike from Wali’s Cyckle in town for relatively good prices. Blocket.se or Facebook groups are also a great place to buy a second hand bike online. If you have a higher budget, you can go to stores such as Biltema or XXL for a brand new bike.
